2023 A GRAPHIC NOVEL ON PIERO MANZONI AND A DOCUMENTARY EXHIBITION IN CREMONA
The graphic novel by the established comic book artist Paolo Bacilieri Piero Manzoni BACGLSP (Basta a ciascun giorno la sua pena) published by Coconino Press is one of the first comics entirely devoted to a post-war Italian artist.
Numerous presentations were held in the bookshops of Milan, in specialist trade fairs in Treviso and Rome, in unusual locations such as the Società Filodrammatica Cremonese, the Gabinetto Vieusseux at Palazzo Strozzi and the Accademia di Belle Arti in Verona: a true “Italian tour” continuing into 2024 in equally prestigious settings such as the Museo del Novecento in Milan.
In the autumn a small documentary exhibition on Piero Manzoni was instead held at the State Library in Cremona. The documents were drawn from the collection of Guido Andrea Pautasso, who curated the exhibition together with Irene Stucchi of the Fondazione Piero Manzoni, seeking to present, with the aid of guided tours, the artist’s creative career through archive materials while reconstructing in parallel his biography.
