THE STORY OF THE FOUNDATION

2023 LEGAL VICTORY

In the month of June, the Foundation enjoyed another legal victory. The Civil Court of Milan declared a further five Achromes to be non-authentic. In 2018, the Manzoni Heirs sued in court the owner of five works of art attributed to Piero Manzoni: two creased canvases, two packages – one wrapped in newspaper and the other in wrapping paper – and one in squared cotton wool; all five works featured in the catalogue published in 1991 by the Associazione Amici di Piero Manzoni, a book that was disowned some years later by the president of the association and withdrawn from sale. In the June of 2023, the court pronounced the sentence in which it “declares all five works to be non-authentic in that they cannot be attributed to the artist Piero Manzoni” and ordered “the affixing in indelible lettering on the back of these works, following the res judicata of this sentence, of the attestation of their non-authenticity, pursuant to Article 169 of the Civil Code”.
